Writing – 2/2: Colgan’s writing is straight up magic. It reminded me so much of what I hope to do for our new small town neighbors and our local library! Plot – 2/2: Everything about this storyline is perfect.

And luckily, Colgan wrote a follow up – The Bookshop on the Shore – that I can’t WAIT to curl up with! Everything she shares and believes, I’m right there with her. She buys a van, transforms it into a bookshop on wheels, and quickly finds a sense of community in her new town through the power of sharing the perfect books with her neighbors – even those that scoff at the idea that books and reading can change lives. When Nina loses her job as a librarian due to budget cuts, she decides to start a new life: as a traveling bookstore owner in the Scottish highlands. I wanted to stay wrapped up in these pages forever and ever – it is the epitome of a feel-good read! This story is what you would get if you could take the warmest, coziest, loveliest hug and turn it into a book. The world needs more Nina Redmonds, because stories are powerful, and that power needs to be respected.The Bookshop on the Corner is the ultimate story for readers of all types – if you love books, libraries, bookshops, reading, even just a little bit, this book is for you. This story was happy and heartwarming overall. This is my only complaint about the book. There are some parts that I wish were taken out. The romance in this book was an important part of the plot because it did keep the story moving forward and it did give Nina a partial sense of purpose. I have never liked romance in books because it always came across as unnecessary and seemed to ruin the plot of the book it was in. What didn’t make me glad was the romance in this book. Nina feels at home in the town she stays in by the end of the book, and I couldn’t be gladder that she found her true home with a happy ending. She has her perfect job back as she drives around selling the right books to the right reader. Nina impulsively decides to go to Scotland to check out the van and decides she wants to stay.Īt this point in the book, Nina has a fresh start in life.

Nina is so incredibly passionate about her job that when she loses her job, she wants to start a book truck so she can continue to match the right book with the right person.

Nina’s job is to match the right person with the right book. She is not the typical matchmaker that might come to your mind. The book tells the story of Nina Redmond, who is a matchmaker. When I picked up “The Bookshop on the Corner” by Jenny Colgan, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.Īs I started reading, my gut kept telling me that this book would continue to get better and better.
